First, you will meet with a board-certified urologist to review your medical history and discuss your ED concerns. The doctor will discuss common causes of ED and why you may be experiencing symptoms. Next, the doctor will recommend the best therapy option, personalized for you from our unique and vast selection of ED medications.
You may order the medication once our providers have confirmed your current health status and that the prescribed medication is safe for you to take.
A REGENX Health provider will determine if the ED medication is safe for your use. ED medications often have contraindications with other drugs, so your health provider will review your medical history and current medication list to confirm whether you are a candidate for Ed therapy.
The ED medications provided by affiliated REGENX Health pharmacies are effective for the treatment of the erectile dysfunction and are considered the first line of therapy by the American Urologic Association (AUA).
Oral ED medication has been shown to be an efficacious therapy in 60-80% of men with erectile dysfunction depending on etiology. Still, 15-30% of men may fail to respond to oral ED medication. We recommend using the medication at least 4-8 times before determining the medication to be ineffective.
For patients who are failing to respond to oral ED medication be sure to assess the following measures:
Prevent anxiety before sexual activity. Performance anxiety can make it difficult to achieve an erection even with ED medication.
Avoid alcohol while consuming the ED medication.
Try taking the medication without food. If taking the medication with food seemed ineffective, try taking the medication on an empty stomach.
Take the oral medication differently. If you normally swallow the medication, allow the ED medication to dissolve under your tongue for faster absorption.
Try a different medication. For instance, if you tried Sildenafil, order Vardenafil or Tadalafil next time. For some patients, this easy switch makes all the difference.
Consider your sex drive. If your sex drive is low, remember that ED medication alone does not boost libido. LowT also affect your ability to get an erection even when taking ED medication. Meet with a REGENX Health provider if you also experiencing lack of sex drive in conjunction with erectile dysfunction.
If adjusting and confirming the above situations, never double or increase the dosage of medication without advice or counseling from a health provider. Increasing the dosage has been shown to increase adverse side effects of the medication rather than improve erectile response.
If you do not respond to ED medication after trying two different types of ED medication, there are still more options to explore. The next step is to have a discussion with your health provider. Other options of therapy include:
Using a vacuum erection device (VED). A VED is a mechanical device placed over the penis to boost arterial inflow by a vacuum effect and decrease venous outflow. Several studies have shown a combination of both a VED and sildenafil can significantly improve erections.
Take a penile injection. Penile injection therapy uses a tiny diabetic needle to inject a vasodilating agent into the penis to achieve an erection. No arousal is necessary to an obtain the erection in this manner and many men do like the fast action of onset. Although there is a slight reduction in spontaneity it is an option many men use if oral medication fails illicit an appropriate response.
Try a penile implant. If penile injections do not work a penile implant is an option many patients will find acceptable to achieve an ondemand erection.
Consider lowdose penile shockwave therapy. This is a new modality of therapy that is gaining acceptance, with clinical research showing promising results. The science behind this therapy provides a painless lowdose shockwave to the penis that may improve blood flow and encourage new blood vessel formation that enhances erectile response to stimuli and to oral ED medication.
